Skipper and Crew Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the registration fee?

The registration fee is $200 per boat (4 persons). This covers breakfasts, lunches and dinner as well as costs for committee boats, trophies and prizes. Additional crew tickets will be available for $50 per person. Dinner only tickets will also be available for $25.

Q. What other costs are there?

This is a Charity Regatta and we want you to find sponsors for the United Way. Sailors and their friends are a generous lot, last year the average donation for the 32 boats that participated was more than $700.

Q. Will the sponsors get a tax-deductible receipt?

Yes they will. This is an Okanagan event, so funds raised by Vernon Sailors stay in Vernon, and funds raised by Kelowna sailors go back to the United Way in Kelowna. The money you raise stays in your community.

Q. Can my business be a Co-sponsor?

Absolutely. Contact David Simpson at 250-542-0053 (chair@okregatta.com).

Q. Who do sponsors make out checks to?

You can make them out to United Way, or you can make them out to United Way Charity Regatta. These should be attached to your pledge forms. Our volunteer committee expects all cheques to be presented at registration time. Be sure our committee knows who to make out the tax receipt for.

Q. What prizes are there?

In addition to the classic 1st, 2nd and 3rd there will also be the Okanagan Charity Regatta Cup awarded to the overall winner, the Whisky Island 1st, 2nd and 3rd and of course the 1st, 2nd and 3rd fundraisers.

Q. What fleets will qualify to enter?

We will host three PHRF Spinnaker fleets and a non-spinnaker fleet. The Fleet divisions will be determined after registration is complete, however based on past years registrations the PHRF ratings for the three spinnaker fleets will likely be as follows, Class A PHRF 0 – 152; Class B PHRF 153 – 204 ; Class C PHRF >204.
